Our computer teacher is very special!

On Tuesday I opened our local newspaper and found a picture of 'our' computer teacher. Her smiling face was amongst several others in the group all taken in Mauritius.Fiona Beal had just received a Silver Medal for her 'Bonding through Blogging' program. This program had all the Grannies and Grandpas coming to the classroom on a Thursday at 11 to learn about their computers, share their childhood stories with the children, and enjoy a cup of tea and 'children baked' dainties. The children showed us how they had been in contact with children all over the world,In fact,my grandson,David rushes to my house on Friday afternoons to see if any of his 'friends' have added on to his blog.He knows children in Brazil,Canada,China and here at home.I think that it is Wonderful.Fiona has shown the children that they can extend their horizons way past the edges of their lives, and that they can become friends with many other children.Fiona Beal might be tiny but she ROCKS!!!!!

Today is a very special day. Why?,you may ask.Well, today we are celebrating the fact that our computer teacher ,Fiona Beal, has won an award for her work! She devised a cunning plan to bring all the children in her grade 45 class together with the grandparents and even a GREAT grandparent by teaching us oldies to blog and us oldies explaining to the children how it was in our days at school. It spread like wildfire and very soon children from all over the world were viewing the blogs here in Fishhoek at the bottom of Africa.Teachers were in contact with our Teacher, combined stories were being written and the next thing that we knew was that Ms Beal was summoned to Johannesburg and given a prise. She is now the proud owner of a beautiful pink laptop! And a few other things,of course.Today some people with cameras are busy making movies of us all,but mainly Ms Beal,to show on the television network here in South Africa.

This program has turned out to be so exciting!I can hardly believe that children from all over the world have been in contact with each other.Perhaps when they are all grown up and start to go adventuring they will be able to meet each other in the countries that us old folks have dreamed about visiting! There are so many things to talk about, from what do children have for breakfast all the way to why do teachers give us homework.

I loved working with David who I call Stinker, and Lindsay every week in the Senior Citizens' project! I am David's granny. What a lot of fun I had in his computer classroom. His teachers are soo.o cool!! When I was at school we were not allowed to talk in class, but here we could chat about the blogging. The stuff that the class baked for us each week was quite delicious and the little book with all our pictures that we got at the end will have to go on the wall with all our movie tickets and theatre programs! The best is that I can now BLOG on my laptop. I wonder if I can put comments on David’s blog from my laptop? I will have to ask Ms Beal at our next session.
